I would like to share with you on this page some thoughts I have had
of late..........reviews have been supportive, full of encouragement, and most positive
for "Different Thoughts" and "Julian's Challenge".
...this can also be said for "Some Will Say...." and lately even some very
adverse and abusive comments have been registered. Obviously the title is
holding true, for some have said
- Heresy !!
...old thoughts which have been re-charged and additional thoughts have
been aroused: What does the Church and its constituents really believe
about Baptism ??
- does the Church and its parishioners really accept the fundamental fact
that Baptism = total and complete, full membership ??
- if so, and consequently if my determination of Baptism in "Some Will
Say..." is accepted, then there is no need to re-write a new definition for
Baptism !! .....but if a baptized person is to be regulated to a
"minor" member ie: prohibited from any or all benefits of membership, then
what have we made baptism become....and in relation to Baptism what is
part-time membership, affiliated membership, etc.
- Chap. 4 of "Some Will Say..." and other parameters presented elsewhere in this book, questions the reality and relevance of baptism when
it is viewed by some Christians as something other than complete involvement within the community.
Not all Christians acknowledge and exemplify by their practice that full membership is awarded to all those baptized.
- so, what then is the definition of baptism ???
- what is the Church's understanding of equality ????
-we need to review very seriously what we think of "creation"...."concepts
of God".....as noted in "Julian's Challenge' and in "Some Will Say...."
- once baptized is that person not equal to me ? ....regardless of my age....my occupation....etc., surely my position within the Church....
age... gender....etc,..... does not dictate my equality ????!!!!!!!
-yet members of the Church in many areas/locales.......still cannot, or will not attempt, to reconcile, for example, equality regarding
ordination.
- many still refuse to accept and acknowledge ordination on gender/sexual
grounds as well as on what seems to be on other reasonable matters.
- can we refuse the office and function of the priesthood because the person bearing that office is male or female ??????? and if so, then
whose membership is less than the other's ???? and why ????
-this question of equality invades all disciplines....and continues
to do so via even more subtle means than that previously detected......so
much so that what is called into question, are the most fundamental principles in belief systems regardless of Faith and Denomination.
- chaps. 2 and 3 - "Some Will Say...." - among other thoughts within the
parameters of this book........why do we ostracize from events within the
community - even request some to leave the parish - when certain people
claim whom they are ???
- how can a parish force parents to leave a life-long parish relationship
because their son/daughter was honest enough to declare himself/herself a
homosexual/lesbian ???...........forced out by the parishioners attitudes
towards them.....by the non- inclusiveness....by the body language....etc.,
- what wrong have the parents done ???? what wrong has the daughter/son
done???
- I use to be embarrassed, at least very annoyed, flustered by people who
used certain passages of scripture that suited their needs or arguments.
Yet dismissed scriptures that didn't (or don't and probably never will)
agree with them.
- how I am pained at such ignorance.
- Consider the Book of Leviticus in the Old Testament - a book of importance for its own time, in a certain place, under
and for specific conditions - but to use a part of it to force and support
one's thought about one "issue" or to condemn a person.....or to use these
passages completely out of context....or to use these passages that need
additional explanation as to meaning and interpretation....while ignoring
the rest of the Book is intellectually inept and practically dishonest.
- I don't keep all the 100 plus commandments in Leviticus...nor do I use this Book while counseling others.......but still I consider that
activity is in alignment with the Christian ethic.
That's it for now....more can be coming .
